Who Updates Your Website After It Launches?

Your opening hours change on a Tuesday. Somebody has to change them on the site. Here is who that is under each way of getting a website built, including ours.

Quick answer

Whoever holds the editor. On a website builder that is you, in their editor, included in the subscription you keep paying. With an agency or a freelancer it is them, after you email and wait, and it is usually billed. With us: the free site is yours to change and publish in one click, you get the code on every plan so any developer can edit it, and $249 is the plan where we host it on your own domain and make changes with you over five rounds. We do not sell a maintenance retainer.

This is the question people ask last, quietly, after they have decided everything else. It deserves a straight answer, because the wrong one costs you every time a price or a phone number changes.

The real question is who holds the editor

A website is files sitting on a server. Changing one means either opening an editor that can write to those files, or asking the person who can. Everything else about this decision follows from which of those two you are signing up for.

So when someone tells you the site is done, the useful follow-up is not what it cost. It is: when the hours change, whose screen is it on?

On a builder, the answer is you, and the subscription never ends

Website builders solved this one honestly. You log in, click the text, type the new hours, hit publish. No email, no invoice, no waiting.

What you are paying for that convenience is a subscription that runs for as long as the site exists, and a site that only exists inside the platform. Stop paying and the page goes with it. That is fine while the trade suits you. It is worth knowing you made it.

With an agency or a freelancer, a two-minute change becomes an email and a wait

Here the change is small and the process is not. You write the email, it joins a queue behind paying project work, and you get the new hours live sometime this week. Most will bill it, by the hour or against a retainer you agreed to earlier.

The bigger risk is not the invoice. It is what happens when they stop replying. If you do not have the files, whoever comes next starts by rebuilding what you already paid for. Ask for the code at the start, not at the end.

HubSpot puts a freelancer or agency redesign at $2,000 to $15,000. That buys the build and the involvement. It does not usually include the Tuesday.

What we do after launch, said plainly

We are not a maintenance company. There is no support contract and no monthly plan. What exists is this:

  • The free site is editable by you. Give us your web address and your site comes back rebuilt with your own words and photos. Change any of it and put it live in one click, on a redesign.llc address. No card. Your own domain comes with the $249 plan.
  • You get the code on every plan. The files are yours, so any developer you ever hire can open them and change a line. Nobody has to be us.
  • $49 arrives the same day, yours to host anywhere, with no rounds of changes at that price. $99 gives you three rounds of changes with us, finished in 48 hours.
  • $249 is the one where we run it. Up to three designs combined into one site, five rounds of changes, and we host it on your own domain, secure it and keep it running. Live in seven days.

Five rounds is what the $249 plan includes. It is not an open-ended arrangement, and we would rather you knew that before you paid than after.

Our take

The easy version of this page implies we are always there. We are not, and pretending otherwise would make the first unanswered email feel like a broken promise. What we can promise is narrower and more useful: you own the files, so you are never stuck waiting on one company. That is the answer I would want if I were the one buying.

When this isn't right for you

Hire someone else if:

  • You want a number to call when something looks wrong at 9pm. That is a support contract, it is worth paying for, and we do not offer one.
  • Several people update the site every week and none of them will touch a file. You want a content system and someone to keep it patched.
  • You need uptime monitoring, backups and security patching for software you depend on. That is managed hosting or a managed service provider.
  • The site runs a shop, bookings or customer logins. Those keep needing a developer after launch, and that relationship should be set up on purpose.

If none of those are you, the honest requirement is smaller than it feels: a site you can change yourself, and files you can hand to anyone.

Frequently asked questions

Who updates my website after it is built?
Whoever can open the editor. On a website builder that is you, inside the subscription. With an agency or freelancer it is them, usually after an email and usually billed. With us, the free site is yours to edit and publish in one click, you get the code on every plan so any developer can change it, and on the $249 plan we host it on your own domain and make changes with you over five rounds.
Can I edit the website myself without a developer?
Yes on the free site, which you change in the browser and publish in one click. The paid plans hand you the files instead, so edits there are made by you if you are comfortable in the code, or by any developer you hire. On the $249 plan you can send the changes to us within the five rounds it includes.
Do you offer ongoing website maintenance or support?
No. There is no retainer and no support contract. Our plans are $49, $99 and $249 paid once. The $249 plan includes hosting on your own domain and five rounds of changes, and that is the full extent of it. If you need somebody on call every month, hire a freelancer on a retainer.
